Have You Thought of Testing Your Broadband Speed?

Many customers of a broadband service will claim that their supply speed is probably the greatest piece of the supply. However many a broadband suppliers will not supply customers with tools to trial their speed. The good news is that there are numerous web sites out there that will grant you to verify your broadband speed. When examining your broadband speed it’s essential to source a service that is custom-made to your state, there is no point arranging a trial employing a checker located in Australia when you are trying to do a broadband speed test in India.. A trial will give you your upload speed as well as your download speed. Upload can be seen as speed between your laptop and the Net, so if you post a lot of files then upload is all-important . Download speed is how quick you can take data files from the internet to your PC. Download speed is commonly a lot faster than upload and this is convention. Most customers are much more concerned in their download speed rather than their upload speed as you commonly spend very much more time on downloads. Once you have discovered the speed of your broadband connection what do you do if you are less than happy? The most evident thing is to notify your service provider and tell them that you think your speed is unacceptable. You can also do things at home to ensure that your service is operating optimally. Constantly ensure that any domestic phone cabling is in first-class condition and never use bad quality extension lines. See to it your computer anti-virus software is up to date. When executing a internet speed test forever ensure that you are not executing any other actions which may be making the connection to be employed like playing games or watching video.

Use Digital Publishing as a Smart Solution to Traditional Publishing

Posted by admin in A Better Web

If you yourself are an ardent budding young author, natural writer or maybe a rather corporation looking to disseminate your smart insights or impart a little impression upon today’s mad world then maybe more traditional publishing may regularly be a bitter stumbling block to revealing your lovingly created words of love and wisdom out and about, into the public eye. Take heed the crestfallen, there are also intelligent digital and original online options available that could take the painful headache, burning distress and a little of the maddening difficulty out of broadcasting your textual toils. There is no shock you could be thrilled to realise that one could go around those wretched editors, sub-editors and conceited publishers with taking your own sure steps to publishing your very own works. This site is one of many that can provide you with a comrehensive digital publishing alternative to publishing.

So you have a brilliant article which you have been working particularly hard on for possibly years, or feasibly very priceless facts and figures that you just know people would happily sell their own pets to hold. One might have spellbinding data from a dedicated research report, or possibly even an assortment of original photographs, great pictures or other ingenious artwork that you would like to gather as a complete assortment of inspired works to parade one’s artistic skill or possibly to get priceless publicity to the exclusive services you provide and to get your specialist products acknowledgment. What about just having your criticism regarding those things that really bug you; maddening people, politics, society, capricious culture and sharing you own judgement with other concurring people.

Nowadays you find yourself in a marvellous situation where you might have put in the difficult labour and have got the wares; a terrific piece of ingenious work that is hugely useful, in spite of this you could will still need to get past with a publisher and persuade them that your life’s works is worthy to be immortalised in print. Sadly this will probably regularly be the ending of the line for legions of ingenious authors, wordsmiths, poets, scribes, reporters and biographers. Even if the publisher has been convinced another wearisome stumbling block may be brought to light. All of the charges of all those annoying extras; editors, designers and other resources required to convert a fantastic design into a fulfilled reality are able to fall outside of what you could feel is reasonable or you may not be able to see the value in the expenditure.

The money needed in publishing is not the only deterrent or bitter stumbling block, for many compilers the turn around times for more traditional broadcasting are much too long. This is often the case in the instance of stories, data or information that is very fresh, concerning hot trends or subject matter and could frequently devalue as time passes and the narrow window of opening for impact begins to narrow down.

Modern technology comes to the rescue once again, offering you a fast track alternate option. In our hectic, technologically advanced crazy world an enormous array of services which have traditionally been offered offline are fast making the incredible migration into the unearthly clever online sphere, making the services far more accessible to all who desire to use them and often at a far lesser cost to the user too. Clever digital broadcasting is just one of these services and it provides you, the developing author, with the capacity to publish you own inventive work yourself with none of the delays and growing charges associated with the more “historical” mediums.

Digital publishing can also offer you the flexibility you might be hoping for in terms of the effortlessness of modernising information, data or even adding entire sub-sections to an already published craft. Then there is the increasing allure of rich media such as; interactive applications, animations, videos and widgets. With an online or digitally published lovingly created composition this the felxibility is fully available and a range of extras and rich media are simply integrated into the magazine, article, or e-book.

In summary, an ambitious writer, small research enterprise or photographic studio no longer needs to kiss up to egotistical publishers or hold up a small bank to see their creation out and about in the marketplace. We live in the clever digital age and this peculiar world of intelligent digital has come to rescue to help you realise you own broadcasting dreams.

How To Choose A Quality Web Host

Posted by admin in A Better Web

There are thousands of web hosting services available online, and some of them are more reliable than others. When you are looking at the number of options available, it is easy to become overwhelmed. It is important to look at potential problems with hosting companies prior to using them. This can save you a lot of time, money, and headaches.

You should avoid hosting services which have servers which are constantly down. A good hosting company should be able to monitor its servers and quickly fix problems. Some hosting services may be down as long as a few days, and these are companies you will want to avoid. It is also important to make sure all the features offered by the company work. If your email is down, this prevents you from being able to run your business. This is something you can’t afford, and you will want to make sure you stay away from companies which do this.

Another thing which is important for you to look at is tech support. How long does it take the tech department to answer your phone calls or emails? A good company should answer within a few hours. Some hosting companies take many days to answer your questions, and the answers they give you may not solve the problem. Hosting companies like this should be avoided. You should also look for hosting services which communicate well with their customers. A lack of communication is one of the leading causes of business failure. You don’t want to do business with companies that don’t effectively communicate.

Sometimes when you cancel your account, the hosting company will continue billing you. This is a very frustrating situation, and you may have to file claims with your bank in order to get your money back. Most hosting companies take out automatic payments, and you will want to do research to make sure they stop billing customers once the service is cancelled. When you look online at hosting companies, always look at the price. If it is too good to be true, it probably is. The prices charged should be enough to pay for their service maintenance and other fees.

Any hosting services which advertise unlimited bandwidth should make you suspicious. If you use a lot of bandwidth, you may have your website taken down. Hosting websites which don’t look professional should also raise red flags. Websites with lots of spelling errors or no information about the company are unlikely to provide quality service.

Care For Some Cheap Web Hosting?

Posted by admin in A Better Web

No, ‘cheap’ is not necessarily a bad thing (well, not always), but when it comes to a services industry as competitive and with as thin margins as the web hosting industry, customers better watch out. Hosts offering ‘low-cost’ services tend to offer the world for Rs. 900 per year but, usually fail to deliver even the most basic of services. Surprised? I’m not. Let me explain some basics for the benefit of the vast majority who would still be unsure as to what I’m rambling about.

A “web host” is a company (well, most like to think of themselves as such but that’s a whole new article) that is in the business of procuring bandwidth (internet connectivity) and servers (glorified computers) with the intent to re-sell the same, in smaller bits, to people who need storage space for their e-mails and websites. This is usually (read always) accomplished by renting out dedicated servers with a decent hard drive and bandwidth quota and then using a hosting automation suite (control panel) to divide the server resources up into smaller chunks called ‘hosting plans’. The goal is to price these plans in a way that they remain affordable for the client while helping the host maximize profit from the resources it has.

Now comes the fun part…

Since there are almost no barriers to entry in this particular industry, new web hosts keep popping up every day. This helps keep the price for hosting services sane and should also mean better service for the customers since there are many hosts competing for their business. What really happens is that one Johnny-come-lately decides that the only way he can grab some market-share is by offering the lowest prices. Once customers start quoting his price to the host struggling for their business, the host decides to match it. Before you know it, everyone has slashed their prices by half! This, in Pakistan, can be seen every 10 - 12 months.

“Good”, you say? Read on…

What does this mean for the web host? Suddenly, all their existing clients are paying them half of what they used to. This means that in the coming year, they would have to generate twice as much new business just to make the same amount as last year! Is this considered growth? I think not!

Sadly, the number of clients does not magically increase with every price shave. So, the web hosts are left with little choice other than to cut costs just to make ends meet. Where there were 3 support people, they decide to make do with just one. Where there were 2 servers earlier, they decide that they can load all of the clients onto just one server resulting in lower operating costs. These measures, needless to say, do have a positive impact on the host’s bottom-line but deteriorate the services resulting in un-answered support queries and long periods of downtime (website/email inaccessibility) or extremely slow server response due to excessive loads on the server.

Now, if the host were to put their existing clients first, they would price their service fairly so that every client not only feels good in his wallet, but can also rely on the service being offered. I guess, all it boils down to is; whether a web host is in this business to provide a top-notch service with a long-term business goal or is just there to make a quick while competing with all the fly-by-night hosts who happen to come along.

Recently, I have come across at least three such hosting companies that are now in financial peril because they could not resist the urge to slash prices in order to try and capture some new business. Sadly enough, these are not people who are ‘new’ to the industry. Such an impact on the market is magnified 10 fold when an older host decides they would be better off by just slashing prices rather than improving on service. As a result, the younger companies follow suit and create a mess for themselves and more importantly their clients. The ultimate outcome is that frustrated clients decide to switch to foreign web hosts that provide a better service at a saner price.

From experience, I have learnt that providing a good service is what really matters. The rest falls into place when clients realise that they can only run their online business if the service they get is of good quality. After all, you get what you pay for. What good is a cheap service when you will eventually stop getting any?

Website Templates - Thousands Saved On Web Design Fees

Posted by admin in A Better Web

For those with little or no experience with website design
software, templates have quickly become a practical solution to
professional website design. Most of the top end sites offer a
huge selection of very impressive, easy-to-edit website
templates. All you have to do is check your email containing the
link to download the .zip file. The html in these templates is
compatible with Adobe GoLive, Macromedia Dreamweaver and
Microsoft Frontpage. The major advantage is the price, they run
anywhere from $20 to $70. Another great advantage is you don’t
have to hire a web designer, who usually takes 1 to 2 weeks to
produce a page of such high quality. Webmasters, either novice
or expert, can easily save thousands of dollars on design fees
by using website templates. A good template website will also
have affordable domain and hosting resources available.

Who Else Wants To Discover The Secret To Generating Your Keywords Fast And Easy

Posted by admin in A Better Web

When you build a web site or a blog, you generally construct it around a theme. Your theme might be “Garden Furniture”. Let’s say that you setup a Wordpress blog. The first thing that you want to start doing after you get the blog set up is to start writing articles for the blog.

Obviously, each article should be written around a keyword. So, where do you get keywords that are related to your theme, which is “Garden Furniture”?

A quick and easy way is to use Google Adwords. If you do not have a Google Adwords account it is very easy to get one. All you have to do is sign up. The sign up fee is $5.00.

After you have signed up, log in to your account and click on “Tools”. You will be taken to a page where you can then do research on keywords. Type in garden furniture and immediately you get 72 keywords that are highly targeted to your theme.

* outdoor garden furniture

* lawn and garden furniture

* antique garden furniture

* wholesale garden furniture

* plus 68 more words

We really need to expand our number of keywords. What you do now is take each of the 72 keywords and expand them. Let’s take the first one on the list “outdoor garden furniture” and expand it. All you do is take this keyword and run a search just like you did for our theme keyword. Here are the results.

1. better homes and gardens patio furniture

2. garden treasures patio furniture

3. garden patio furniture

4. better homes and garden patio furniture

5. garden and patio furniture

6. better homes and gardens outdoor furniture

7. garden treasures outdoor furniture

8. garden outdoor furniture

9. garden place patio furniture

10. better homes and garden outdoor furniture

11. better homes & garden patio furniture

12. better homes & gardens patio furniture

13. garden ridge patio furnitureoutdoor garden furniture

14. lawn and garden furniture

15. antique garden furniture

16. wholesale garden furniture

17. garden furniture uk

18. teak garden furniture

We have just added 18 new keywords to our list. If we have an average of 18 expanded keywords for each of our original 72 words we will have a total of 1296 keywords that are target specific to our site theme.

This method works, but is somewhat labor intensive. I plan to show you faster ways to collect your keywords in a future article. If you are low on funds though, this is an excellent way to build your list. Then, all you have to do is to write an article with 5 to 8 paragraphs per article, with your keyword
used at least once in each paragraph.

The search engines will love this kind of “content” site.

I Did It: Six Months to a Successful Website

Posted by admin in A Better Web

For years now I’ve been looking to start my own business, but my highest priority has always been to spend less time working, and more time with my family, while still giving them everything they need (and most of what they want). It’s a common dream, right? No boss to answer to, less stress, more vacation, more quality family time… I wanted to get away from the 9 to 5 and the traffic. (I bet you do, too.)

So, I started to research various business opportunities. I looked into franchises of all sorts, but the money I had to invest upfront was way too much (thousands of dollars, at a minimum), which made the idea too risky - I couldn’t risk my family’s financial well-being on a dream of mine. I was even close to falling for various MLM schemes. Luckily I never made it that far. When the Internet became more and more prominent in, well, society in general, it just became something I couldn’t ignore anymore. So I did some more research, this time on creating a website. I began to like the idea, for many reasons:

1. I could start it with little $ invested (so, hardly any risk)

2. I could start it while I was still in my 9 to 5 job (again, no burden on my family financially)

3. I could choose the subject of the website (and focus on something that I enjoyed)

It was then that I decided to use choosing gifts (something I enjoy) as the basis for my site. But then I had to figure out exactly HOW to create it. There’s a lot involved (much that I didn’t know at the start): domain registration, hosting, page creation, search engine submission, keywords, titles, descriptions, site promotion… whew! At first it seemed like way too much to handle, and with the massive amounts of websites out there (60 million and counting) I feared my site would just get lost in the crowd (so what’s the point). I almost gave up the idea altogether.

But through perserverance and a little luck in finding the right tools to teach me what to do, and when to do it, I’ve been able to create a successful website. In 6 months my site’s traffic ranking is in the top 1% of all websites!

I’m thrilled about what the future might hold! Have I quit my day job? No, not yet… I want to pay off my debt first. You know… the “American Way” of falling into debt with credit cards and loans - even though I live in Canada. :) My family and I will have our debt paid off by Christmas 2005 - then I can consider quitting the 9 to 5 routine.

If you are like me and you want to start a website… no,… start a business… and change your future, I encourage you to get out there and do it. You owe it to yourself to at least check it out.

How To Get Visitors To Trust Your Web Site

Posted by admin in A Better Web

When you are standing in a store, looking at MP3 players and deciding which one to buy, it’s not always the place you’d imagine you would be faced with the issue of how you trust people on the Internet. But that’s exactly what happened to me yesterday.

I was in a large store in my home town of Reading, UK, looking for a hi-fi that would play MP3s and CD-RW. Behind me was a display of new plasma screen TVs. Now my plan was to look for the shape and size of hi-fi that appealed to me, then come home and find the cheapest price online. That clearly wasn’t the plan for the couple behind me looking at the plasma screen TVs.

“Shall we get it?” the young woman asked her partner. “Why not?” he said, “It’s a lot of money but at least we know if it goes wrong we can bring it back to the shop and they can deal with it. You can’t do that on the Internet. At least in this shop I can look into the salesman’s eyes and see if he’s telling me the truth.”

It’s worthwhile reflecting that in spite of the huge success that many people have selling things online, most people do not buy from the Internet. Most people, like the man I overheard in the shop yesterday, would rather buy from a ‘real person’.

Indeed, I came back from my shopping expedition yesterday to discover an email from someone on my mailing list. “Thank you for trying to sell me your ebook,” he said, “but I’ve done a considerable amount of research about these things and I now know they are all a complete scam.”

Trust - that’s the issue Internet marketers have to face online. When we are face to face with a person trying to sell us something, we use body language, vocal cues and a host of other triggers to almost instantly determine whether or not we trust someone. Online, we don’t have that opportunity. The psychological cues we rely on to determine trustworthiness do not feature on the Internet, which means we are much less likely to buy online.

Research on how we determine the trustworthiness of an individual has shown a surprising result. The main reason for saying someone can be trusted is not their apparent honesty. Instead, it is simply how much they appear to like us. The more someone shows they care for us, the more we trust them - even if they are actually lying.

For people trying to sell things online this means you need to make your web site more personal and use things like video and audio to create a greater personal connection with your visitors. It also means being up-front with customer service issues, like guarantees, returns and so on. You could also consider using scripts that allow you to include the visitor’s name in the page they are viewing. The more personal you make the visitor’s experience, the more they will be able to use their inbuilt psychological trust analysis system. And that means more business for you.

Easy-To-Read Web Pages Will Increase Sales (Revised)

Posted by admin in A Better Web

Web pages with readable text will generate more sales than fancy
pages that are hard to read. Follow these design tips and not
only will your web pages be easier to read, but you’ll keep
potential buyers at your site and position yourself to increase
sales.

Keep Pages Short — Especially Your Home Page

* Put important content at the top of your pages so it’s visible
on the screen. Users may not scroll through lengthy pages. * In
general, limit the length of a web page to two screens. * Split
up long pages into several pages.

Layout

* Use left aligned text rather than justified text. * Write
short paragraphs (4-5 lines). * Indent the beginning of each
paragraph in sales letters. * Limit the width of your web pages
to fit your visitors’ monitors. Your visitors don’t want to
scroll left to right to see your content. * Keep the look,
layout, navigation, typefaces, and colors consistent on all
pages.

Break up Copy

* Break up long text with white space, color, columns, lines,
and graphics. * Break up copy into easy-to-read sections * Use
subheadings and bulleted lists to highlight benefits.

Colors

* Use color sparingly. Too much color can be distracting. *
Select a background color that contrasts with the text color to
make your content stand out. * Avoid blue backgrounds when using
blue links (the standard link color). * Avoid dark backgrounds.
Dark text on a light background is easy to read. * Avoid text on
multi-colored background images. Such background images will
decrease the readability of your text. * Use web-friendly
colors. Colors that look bright on your monitor may appear dark
on someone else’s and make your message unreadable.

Typography

* Limit the use of small type, reverse type (white text on dark
background), and italics. * Avoid using UPPER CASE in your body
copy. * Limit the number of fonts in a web site to a maximum of
three (proferably only two). * Use a type size that is geared to
your target audience. For instance, use larger type for older
readers. * Emphasize important words, headlines, and sentences
by using color, bold, and different text sizes. But do so
sparingly. Too much bold or color reduces the impact. * Avoid
underlining. Readers might think your underlined words or
sentences are links. * Use standard fonts such as Arial,
Verdana, and Times New Roman. If you’re using fonts your viewers
don’t have on their computers, their browesrs will substitute
those fonts and your web pages will look different on their
computers than you intended them to look. * Avoid special
characters like curly quotes, curly apostrophes, n-dashes, and
m-dashes. These characters may convert into bogus characters on
web sites. * Use fonts that are appropriate for your subject
matter and your audience.

Images and Graphics

* Use images and graphics that support your sales message. *
Keep animation, blinking text, and scrolling text to a minimum.
They distract the reader from focusing on your text.

Check Your Pages

Web pages may look different on your visitors’ computers,
depending on their computer, monitor, browser, and fonts. What
may look great with one browser may look unprofessional with
another. View your web pages with different browsers, computers,
platforms (PC and Mac), screen resolutions, and settings.
Statistics indicate that visitors use a wide variety of browsers
and platforms.

Keep visitors, prospects, and buyers at your site with
easy-to-read, interesting content. An easy-to-read, professional
web site can maximize your sales. Apply these techniques now.
